We’re brighter together.
Solar panels have been around for decades, dotting rooftops and supplying energy to reduce energy bills and carbon footprints.
Now, community solar programs give homeowners a chance to do the same thing as part of a coordinated group effort through solar farms. OPPD's five-megawatt solar farm located near Fort Calhoun, Neb., has been supplying clean renewable energy to the electric grid since 2019.
By enrolling in OPPD’s Community Solar Program, you’ll join a team working together to produce clean energy today in support of a greener tomorrow.
Is Community Solar right for me?
I want to:
- Support local green efforts like renewable energy development and carbon-footprint reduction.
- Contribute to & benefit from solar power—without investing & installing my own rooftop solar system.
- Support solar energy as a renter or without making permanent changes to my property.
The community solar rate for 2025 is a $0.85 debit (charge) per share, per month.
How It Works
OPPD Community Solar Program participants subscribe to one or more shares. Each share represents 100 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity. You’ll receive a separate solar charge item on your monthly bill, calculated as shown below. A one-time refundable deposit of $100 will be added to your first bill after subscribing. That $100 will be refunded after completing five years in the program.
After that, your monthly solar charge will be a monthly contribution based on your number of shares when the solar farm generates energy.
Here’s an example: an average home of 2,000 square feet uses approximately 1,000 kWh of electricity each month (including net-metering customers). That’s a regular electricity bill of around $100 each month.
Subscribing to a single share (100 kWh of electricity) costs $0.85 each month and accounts for about 10% of the average household's monthly usage. That means subscribing to 10 shares can help cover the majority of the average household's electricity needs—just $8.50 more per month in 2025. By participating in Community Solar you're helping maintain and expand renewable energy sources in our community.

Why OPPD Created the Community Solar Program
We commit to providing you with affordable, reliable and environmentally sensitive energy services. OPPD researched the possibility of creating a community solar program and found that the idea was widely popular with both residential and business customers.
The solar farm is east of Fort Calhoun and came online in December 2019. It can produce 5 MW of solar energy. By participating in the program, you contribute to a portion of the solar energy generated at the facility — and to a better, brighter future.
We’re here to help.
