Military & Veteran Hiring Programs

Yes. OPPD is deeply committed to supporting military service members, veterans and their families. That commitment shows in our workforce: historically, more than 10% of OPPD employees are veterans or active-duty military. Veterans bring strengths such as leadership, teamwork, discipline and a strong focus on safety and process — qualities that align closely with the needs of the energy industry. To support transitioning service members and continue attracting veteran talent, OPPD partners with several nationally recognized programs, including:

  • Troops to Energy Jobs – Connects veterans with careers in the energy sector through MOS-to-energy translations, veteran career coaches, mentorship, job boards and credential support
  • SkillBridge – Offers active-duty service members in their final 180 days the opportunity to participate in paid civilian internships or training at OPPD, while receiving military pay and benefits
  • Hiring Our Heroes – Facilitates hiring events, fellowship and internship programs, and career workshops aimed at service members, veterans and military spouses

  • Troops to Energy Jobs: Open to veterans and transitioning service members
  • SkillBridge: Available to active-duty personnel within 180 days of separation, with command approval
  • Hiring Our Heroes: Supports active-duty, veterans and military spouses through hiring events, fellowships and internships

  • Troops to Energy Jobs: Offers energy-industry job board, veteran-focused coaching and mentorship to help translate military experience into energy-sector roles
  • SkillBridge: Provides structured civilian work experiences (paid or unpaid) of up to 180 days, often hosted by organizations like OPPD, while participants remain on active duty
  • Hiring Our Heroes: Hosts hiring events (online and in-person), career workshops and 6–12-week fellowships designed to bridge military-to-civilian career transitions

They’re hired into a wide range of positions, including technical, skilled trades, engineering, customer service and support functions—aligned with their military experience via these programs.
