OPPD named No. 1 in residential customer satisfaction by J.D. Power among Midwest electric utilities

J.D. Power has named Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) No. 1 in U.S. Residential Customer Satisfaction among 16 utilities in the Midwest Midsize Segment of electric utilities for 2024. OPPD ranked number one overall in the Midwest Midsize segment in 2024 and also topped the list in the subcategories of billing and payment, price and communication.
The J.D. Power U.S. Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study surveys customers to measure residential customer satisfaction across six categories: power quality and reliability; price; billing and payment; communications; corporate citizenship; and customer care. The study provides utilities with valuable customer insight to ensure strategic planning and improvement initiatives align with core customer expectations, desires and needs. It also provides benchmarks and markers of growth and performance.
OPPD and its employees – those in customer service, in the field, in its generation fleet and everywhere in between – work hard to provide reliable, affordable and sustainable energy to its customers. This includes outreach to communities throughout OPPD’s 5,000-square-mile district, engagement with youth and high schools, providing various assistance programs – including one that assists low-income customers with making energy-efficient weatherization home improvements – and frequent, clear communication during outages.
2024 was a historic year for OPPD and its customers. The utility added 681 MW of new generation to support a reliable, growing grid while also navigating extreme weather, including the largest outage in the utility’s history. Additionally in 2024, OPPD expanded the Energy Efficiency Assistance Program to multi-family residences, as well as added other programs for renters and multi-family residences. OPPD also partners with more than 30 local nonprofits to provide emergency energy assistance to its customers every year.
