What Do You Want To Be When You "Grow Up"?
Whether you are just starting to plan your future career, will be entering the workforce soon, looking for a ‘next step’, or wanting to change your career path, OPPD may have a place for you. OPPD offers careers in many different fields within the utility.
We employ people that work in construction, customer service, communications and marketing, power plant operators, and line installers. We also have multiple technical fields. If you’re an engineer, we don’t just employ electrical engineers – we also have civil, chemical, industrial, and mechanical engineers on staff. And, we hire computer programmers and analysts, environmental scientists, and more ‘traditional’ office positions like human resources, finance and accounting.
OPPD is a large employer of tradespeople. Of course, OPPD has a need for electricians, but we are also in need of line workers, mechanics, and welders, among other trades. Trade work will be growing in demand in the future, and OPPD offers a stable work week, vacation time, and fantastic benefits to their employees. Keep an eye on our current job postings to see if there’s an opening that appeals to you.

Internships & Co-ops
Planning a Bright Future
We pride ourselves on providing opportunities for students to grow, learn, and build their careers at OPPD through our Internship and Co-op Engineering Opportunities. Every year, we offer more than a dozen internships and co-ops to help college students experience what it’s like to work for a public power utility. Through these programs, students get the opportunity to work alongside current employees and learn more about what their future could look like at OPPD.
Internships
Internships are part-time employment opportunities available to full-time college students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Through our program, interns are eligible to work up to 25 hours each week during the school year, or up to 40 hours each week during the summer. This is a great way to gain paid, real-world job experience! Internships are available in multiple fields (outside of engineering). If you’re studying communications, human resources, finance, IT, or other subjects – keep us in mind! OPPD also partners with INROADS, an organization that develops and places talented minority youth in businesses and helps prepare them for leadership. To apply for an internship with OPPD, look for openings on our current job postings page.
Co-op Engineering Opportunities
If you are studying to be an engineer, you may be interested in our co-op education program. This program, available to full-time college engineering students with a minimum GPA of 2.5, is made up of three alternating work sessions. Co-ops can last eight or nine months, and generally involve taking a semester away from classes to gain work experience. While participating in this program, you will earn a competitive wage, as well as paid holidays and salary increases. To apply for the co-op education program, look for openings on our current job postings page.
OPPD prides itself on being an inclusive environment where every employee is welcome, respected, supported, valued, and encouraged to bring their whole self to work. We want employees to realize their own potential for both personal and professional growth. Whether you’re just starting to think about your future, or you find yourself in the market for a new career, be sure to look into what OPPD has to offer.
