OPPD working to restore power to thousands following the latest round of storms to batter our service territory

Omaha Public Power District is responding to thousands of power outages across 11 counties following a round of strong overnight storms.
The number of outages peaked at just over 17,100, with Douglas, Washington, Sarpy, and Saunders counties being the hardest hit. As of 10:30 a.m., our crews have made good progress, bringing the total number of outages to under 7,000, with more than 60% of impacted customers restored. Our outage map may reflect more at this time until the system catches up to the work taking place. OPPD has requested mutual aid support to help us restore power as quickly as safely possible.
Safety is our top priority. We want to remind customers, if you should come across a downed power line, always assume it is live, high-voltage and extremely dangerous. Stay far back and call us to report the hazard at 1-800-554-OPPD (6773) or dial 911.
Our troubleshooters and crews have been out in force since the early morning hours to nail down specific causes of various outages and make repairs. Though we had some lightning-related damage to equipment, the biggest problems they have seen are related to the strong winds and trees entangled in power lines. Forestry crews are helping to clear those obstructions so our repair crews can safely get to their restoration work.
Please keep in mind, while we do clear tree debris from interference with powerlines, OPPD does not remove tree debris from private property. That cleanup is the property owners’ responsibility.
