OPPD & United Way announce new partnership this Earth Day
April 22, 2025

This Earth Day, Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) and United Way of the Midlands (UWM) are announcing their new partnership to amplify environmentally friendly initiatives in our community through the Greener Together Program.
The program allows utility customers to voluntarily contribute to green projects on their monthly bills. UWM will now serve as the administrator of the program, helping OPPD to maximize the program and its benefits and make a greater impact for those we serve across the utility’s 13-county service territory.
Proposals, submitted by local nonprofits through an application process, may range from such ideas as community gardens, composting, solar energy, energy efficiency, tree planting and more.
“Through the Greener Together Program, we’re working with OPPD to support local nonprofits in building capacity, increasing efficiency and delivering services in smarter, more sustainable ways — helping strengthen the systems we rely on every day,” said Meg Blue, UWM Vice President of Community Investments.
“We’ve had a great partnership with United Way for many years with a shared passion for caring for our communities and helping to ensure the well-being of those we serve,” said Tim McAreavey, OPPD Vice President of Customer Service. “Working together to facilitate Greener Together projects will help us to further advance our decarbonization and energy efficiency goals, which ultimately helps improve the reliability and resiliency of our electric system.”
Blue said UWM is proud to be a trusted partner in building strong nonprofits, investing in programs that work and supporting infrastructure that helps communities thrive. “Greener Together is a reflection of what’s possible when strong partners come together to deliver meaningful impact.”
The next round of applications will be accepted throughout the month of July. To learn more about submitting project proposals, visit UnitedWayMidlands.org/GreenerTogether closer to the application period. To learn more about contributing to the program, visit OPPD.com/GTP.
