As the chief operating officer, Troy Via oversees operations, engineering, asset management, work management, nuclear decommissioning, construction and maintenance of the generation, transmission and distribution systems within the Omaha Public Power District.
Troy and his team ensure that the district safely and reliably produces and distributes electricity to eastern Nebraska communities. His team manages the electrical grid, restores power in outages, constructs new infrastructure to serve growth and operates and maintains the district’s generation plants.
He joined OPPD in September 2013 as director of Energy Marketing and Trading, serving in that role before taking over the vice president of Energy Delivery in 2018. In 2021, his role expanded to include generation teams in a newly created business unit – Utility Operations - which includes more than 1,000 employees.
Prior to joining OPPD, he held numerous positions in merchant asset and regulated power trading at Dominion Resources in Richmond, Virginia, and Aquila Energy in Kansas City, Missouri. He also worked for the Kansas City Board of Trade commodities exchange in a trade auditing and investigations function.
Troy has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Missouri with a focus in finance.
